diy turntable AND (for all you experts) an obviously dumb question

Just so I get the question out of the way - you'd have to couple a seduction phono preamp with the sex kit in order to get a passable level from your turntable correct? Just making sure... Sometimes I mss the obvious.

MORE IMPORTANTLY, I've seen a few postings about diy turntables recently, and think it's something I might consider at some point. i've seen the altmann table, and heard about the teres and origin live tables/kits. I think I can probably figure out a plinth and bearing, and possibly the basics of a tonearm, but I'm really not sure about how to get a good motor that works. It seems DC is the way to go, I guess. Although altmann uses a sine wave audio signal to control his motor???? (insert confused looks and swear words here). I'm assuming belt material/length and all that plays into it as well. Yes, i'm looking at belt drive, not direct.

Thanks for your tolerance of yet another dumbass cluttering up this forum with questions most cats already know the answers to.
