Try the supplied pair and measure the voltage at the heater pins. You are shooting for 6.3V, or maybe a little bit less, at your line voltage. If your voltage is high, it is time to experiment. Otherwise I see no advantage to using a single big honking resistor…John

But it’s the sense of satisfaction I get, by getting it to do anything at all…
