Yet another Foreplay/Extended upgrade hum post....(longish)

Last Saturday I installed the Extended Foreplay upgrade in my stock Foreplay III. All went well and it sounded great out of the gate. No noticeable hum increase.

Then on Sunday eve. I installed the RS neon indicator lamps in the Foreplay, Paramounts and Seduction. Again all went well. No noticeable sound consequences.

Listened all week and all was well.

Tonight I got home from work. Fired everything up and threw on some vinyl. Aaaaaaackkk, really annoying HUM! Went all around the house shutting down anything that could contaminate the power. Rearranged all cords. Nothing changed it.

I noticed if unplugged the amp inputs from the Foreplay everything went inky black. Hmmm. Took the Pre to the bench and removed the Neon lamp wiring. Still with the hum. Did the same to the Paramounts. Ditto.

Now I'm getting really annoyed with that hum! Volume or input change has no effect.

SO I take the Foreplay back to the bench, open 'er up and start poking around. I notice the twisted wire from the power supplies to the C4S boards run up and over the terminal strips right past the red leads for the Auracaps. As I'm tucking them down between the terminal strips to run closer to the chassis a little wire jostling and I hear the unmistakable sound of a solder joint breaking and a lose wire. It's the red wire from A9 to (?). Now I have to move the C4S board to fix. When I finally get it all straightened out and try it out.....ahhhhh, that inky black is back!

SO did I get lucky and find the bad solder joint at A9 causing the hum or is the power supply wires so close to the outfeed caps the culprit and just didn't appear until everything had a chance to burn in?

I've been reading a few posts about Foreplay hum after installing the upgrade.
