as far as "ground" was concerned. The player's hands were on "grounded" steel strings, of course, and if he got his lips a bit too close to that big ol' "grounded" metal mic, he generally didn't play too well for the rest of the night!
Hell, on the old two-wire Fenders, the metal bands on top of the cab were bolted to the chassis to hold it into the wooden cabinet, so those could end up 'hot', too. Since they looked to be sitting on Tolex and wood, you tended not to give them the respect they deserved.
Back in the day, players regularly snipped the ground prong off of their 3-wire plugs because most of the clubs hadn't been updated with grounded outlets, which put them right back in the bad old days of 2-wire amps.
These days, though, every time someone brings me an old amp, a grounded cord is usually the first thing they ask about.
You know, while the safety ground can be a PITA in audio systems, a little time spent with these amps, or the "transformer-less" electronics of yesterday can really make a believer out of a guy...
