LOL...I guess maybe it does look extreme. I did have one of my kits separate at the corners with glue only, so I had to do something.

I do not have the tools or desire to split a round dowel four ways. It's quarter-round stock available at your local builder's supply. The diagonal pieces put a slight pressure on them while the glue set. Glue is just plain ole Elmer's Wood Glue.
