Foreplay Power Cord

Greetings,

This is my first post on this forum, so please excuse the basic level of my questions. Several years ago I bought a foreplay preamp kit and paramour amp kits, and began construction, but never completed the build. Now that I've decided to finish them, I've discovered that the foreplay instructions describe the hook-up of a two conductor power cord, but the kit came with a 3 conductor cord (black, white, green). How do I properly wire this cord into the circuit? Also, while I'm at it, could someone point me in the direction of some simple instructions for staining and finishing the bases; materials needed, and so on?
