A buddy at work asked me a question and it has shaken my knowledge of electricity to the core. I'm sure this will be simple for many of you, if so would you help me to understand.
A 220 volt heater runs at 1500 watts. How many watts would the heater draw at 208 volts. My immediate answer was 1500 watts, the heater would draw more current to make up the difference. I learned in school that watts are watts and you cant change it, if the heater is 1500 watts it will always be 1500 watts.
Yet when I use the two formulas, R=E squared/P and P=E squared/R, the answer is 1340 watts.
This is driving me crazy, how can this be?
Joe
