Think of it this way. When the navy builds a ship it takes years and in that time the ship develops the magnetic signature of the steel that was used and the location that it was built. The shipyard that a vessel was built at can be determined just by the magnetic signature.
Now magnetic signatures are not good for naval vessels for a number of reasons, it effects electronics, radio communication, radar signals, and can be used to set mines off. So the navy will wrap a ship in cables that are charged to change and reduce the magnetic signature. This process is time consuming and takes some time, but it does change it, and this is a big but, the signature will return to what it was when the ship was built.
Based on what I explained above, power and audio signals passing through electronics is going to have an effect on the material it passes through. It will also take a long time for this change to happen. Based on mine and others experience with break-in the change in sound as audio equipment is being used is real and that it takes time.
This is my take on break-in. Take it for what it is worth.
