Some scope’s have a X10 scale built in. take a close look at your V/division knob. I always do a quick sanity check at the cal point. Mine is 1V.
Next keep in mind the AC voltage that are displayed are peak-to-peak voltages, about 1.4X times higher than the RMS value that you read with a good DVM. Try it with your Mains AC voltage. Predict what you’ll see before you try it.
That is the beat advise I can give you, if you have an idea of what you expect to measure, especially when getting used to new test equipment. You will spend less time second guessing whether there is something wrong…or am I doing something wrong with my test gear. When in doubt go back to your sanity checks…John
