When using a X10 probe it divides the voltage by 10 so a 500V B+ is only 50V at the scope, well within the input range. Just make sure its set to X10 when measuring the really high voltages!
The trick is to remember that the voltage is divided by 10, you have to mentally remember to multiply the number you see on the screen by 10. And also set the sensitivity right. If you know you will be looking at a 400V peak to peak signal, thats 40V when devided by 10, so a sensitivity of 10V / div will make your waveform 4 divisions high.
Don't hesitate to ask questions about how to use the scope. There are a fair number of features on that model which probably have you scratching your head saying "what in the world does THAT mean?" There are lot of people here that can help with understanding it.
