The first few years of my career were spent in Presque Isle, Maine where all cars either had engine block heaters or you wouldn't be able to start your car in the winter.
A partner in the firm I worked for used to use a light bulb under the hood to keep his engine warm.
One day at lunch he asked me to give him a ride to the auto dealership. On the way to the dealership I learned his car had caught fire and burned the previous night. Something to do with his light bulb trick and the gas in the carburator.
I'm always reminded of that when I hear of light bulbs being used to warm things.
