You're not too far off the mark here. The rack mount is more to fit in a rack with the Tape Project gear, we are also turning out a version with a thicker front plate and no rack holes. I am taking over the kit building this month, and part of that involves some custom powder coating colors, and we will see how that works out. DIY audio really is "do it yourself" and needs to be left that way to keep the prices reasonable. There are a few companies floating around who also make custom bases, you just have to look.
