It is obvious that Bottlehead has been trying to expand their product line into the higher quality pricier non-kit arena. This is not a bad thing; it would be nice that this wonderful mom and pop operation gets the national and worldly acclaim that is deserved. The DIY audio arena is such a minute part of the audio world that to expand and increase the bottom line; college cost for two children coming up :), and increased employee cost, is a natural and logical progression. I am just personally concerned that the industrial rack mounted prototype and its higher cost will evolve into a line with such a small market share as to make it completely unprofitable. If this is the wave of the future I would suggest that two finished product lines be developed side by side; the industrial as shown in the prototype and another with the same innards but with a much more stylish, i.e. with some wood, cabinet and higher WAF. I also would suggest; I believe that this has been previously discussed, that the DIY product line bases be expanded to more wood and style options, some even preassembled. Not all Bottlehead devotes have the ability or the equipment to build custom bases, but most if not all would like to have bases that look like Wardsweb’s.
These are just some thoughts that started rolling around in my head after seeing the prototype. Doc, you have been spending too much time in professional studios, :). See what happens when you ask for feedback. I guess it has been a really long lonely cold winter here in Alaska.
