...clear varnish on our 50 year old cedar siding -- have been since I was a kid in the '60's.

It breaks my heart when opaque "stains" are used, or paint to "protect" the wood; though it is understandable from a practical point of view, it never looks as richly beautiful -- like a place you want to return to.

You will have a gem when you're done.
