Glad to hear you completed them and the "gently used" tweeters worked OK. Don't forget the 8's are 16 ohm nominal impedance, so you need to turn up the volume to achieve the same power levels you would realize with a 8 ohm Heresy. I had the same experience with my ART Arrays (also 16 ohm) versus my Cornwalls, but I found the maximum volumd before clipping is about the same. The sensitivity of the Straight 8 and the Art Array are about the same, and I really enjoy them driven by my Paramours with the upgrade iron.

Regarding the V3 crossover, I once owned some 8's with the original crossover, then last year I heard Josh's with the v3. I definitely prefer the V3 - much smoother. I would used premium caps only in the tweeter signal path and Solens everywhere else. For the tweeter zoebel you can even use a 20 ga air core inductor. This will bring your cost down to well below $200 with little or no degradation of the sound. That's what you find even in $8,000 mainstream speakers like the new Esoteric MTM's.
