Oops - sorry, I had more ideas in my head than actually came out the keyboard!

The impedance mismatch will reduce power slightly, less than 2dB. That's about 2/3 of a click with stock Sweetest Whispers; the rest (most) of the level difference is probably due to the HF efficiency and directivity differences between speakers as I mentioned. Because of the directivity differences, this will be room and position dependent.

I would actually expect slightly better sonic quality and slam with the 8 ohm tap, due to better damping and reduced distortion. The differences are quite small, however.
