Give it some time for the capacitors to break in - your description of "just a little muddy" is very close to what I hear with new capacitors.

Once broken in, you may find it getting slightly brittle - quite the opposite (to me ear) from "muddy". The v-3 crossover has a high-treble trap to help that issue.

I have no idea why anyone would have a problem with the Paramours and the v-3 crossover specifically - it's news to me. In our experiments (with ParaBees mostly) it is an improvement.

Compared with the Heresy, I would guess that they have similar efficiencies in the bass where it is easy to measure and/or predict, but the Eights have less efficiency in the midrange. There is a built-in baffle step effect due to the narrowing of the vertical beamwidth in the Eights, which I think contributes to their excellent midbass balance.

Your bass limitations may be due to two effects - the Paramours in stock form have some limitations in their iron, but probably more significant the woofer suspensions must break in and become looser. This is mostly the woven phenolic spider that connects the voice coil to the frame near the magnet. It takes some motion, and getting eight woofers to move means lots of bass. While you have the more powerful loaner amp, give them as much bass-heavy loud music as you can stand - it will help. Some people hook up one speaker in reverse phase and put the speakers face to face when doing this; the low frequencies cancel each other acoustically but the drivers still get a workout.
