subwoofer hum

Hi Folks,
Can anyone suggest why my powered subwoofer is humming even louder these days? I've tried a few things, but to no avail:

1) I've unplugged the input to the sub, so it can't be ground loop, can it?

2) I've tried plugging its AC cord both directly into the wall socket and into a trip-lite isolation transformer....same hum

3) I've tried using a cheater plug to circumvent the groung, and still the same hum

Can it simply be that the amp part of the sub has generated even greater hum all on its own?

The hum seems to be the same pitch as noisy transformers...60hz I think.
Any ideas what the cause may be? I'm stumped. I'd aquire another but I'm afraid it might hum like hell too.
