The Bottlehead kits are one HELL of a bargain, and all the other posters have made this clear. You would have to spend many multiples on commercial products--like 5 to 10 times--to better Bottlehead. IMO. YMMV.That in itself is a great reason to buy Bottlehead.
For me, at least as important, is that, by picking and choosing the parts, or modifying the circuit, I get to control how the products sound. I can pick parts that give a warmer, more liquid sound, or parts that give greater clarity and less warmth. With all due respect to certain magazines and reviewers, this hobby is about what turns me on, not some "absolute" sound. It's about enjoyment and what gets MY juices flowing. If you buy commercial, you get what that designer likes. If you buy Bottlehead, you get what Bottlehead likes. But if you are willing to experiment on Bottlehead kits with parts and varying degrees of circuit mods, you can eventually get what YOU like with the support of Doc, PJ and the rest of the forum. IMO, that is an even more compelling reason to buy Bottlehead.
