My favorite Chinese amps story that I read about is the Music Angel 845. This guy actually goes to the trouble of reverse engineering a schematic out of the thing, and it's quite different than the schematic posted by the manufacturer. He seems to do a decent job of redoing the driver circuit in this particular amp. Elsewhere on his page, he examines a Cayin amplifier and finds it to be very up to snuff, only replacing a couple of resistors and capacitors, but no major circuit changes.
