"Have you given any consideration to including a line stage section (or at least multiple inputs with a unity gain buffer & volume control) to create a "full function" preamp?"We already offer that as an upgrade package, and with the added technology of a completely separate power supply for variable gain buffer stage. It's called Foreplay III.
Forgive the smug reply. The reason our stuff is so inexpensive is that we try to minimize the chassis cost. As an example, our Tube Repro amp chassis costs us about 15 times what a Foreplay kit chassis plate and wood base costs us. As soon as we start to put two units in a single box or start to add separate panels for jacks and controls, or some of the other requests we often get, the price always starts to go up fairly dramatically. I suspect that one can do better by figuring out how to combine the two kits oneself and cooking up a nice custom plate from Front Panel Express.
Do also remember that when you decide to add tube stages to a given design the power transformer requirement changes and you have to come up with a way to handle the current draw of the additional circuitry.
