Hey Grainger, heard you were in the body and fender shop. Hope you're doing well.

IMHO, the Alps Blue is a mediocre sounding pot. The $5 Radio Shack Alps pot is just as good. Some will recall that I've posted here in the distant past my experience with trying both of those, the Alps Black Beauty and the TKD in the same integrated amp. The Blue was veiled and images poorly, the Black images well but was overly bright-sounding in that P-P EL-34 amp and the TKD is clear, neutral and does nothing to interfere with soundstage. Since then, PMMWMMI, I have always replaced whatever pot came stock with the $70 TKD, including my current ARC LS-1 which came with the Blue. Big improvement.

AFA using a third stereo pot, the reason Doc likes dual monos is that a lot of stereo pots track unequally, especially at low volumes. I agree. Plus you're adding another great big resistor to the signal. When I was using a Foreplay I would always begin a listening session with a girl-with-guitar track to center the image, then go on from there. NBD.

On Eli Duttman's advice I just acquired a $30 PEC carbon pot for a new pre-amp project, Digi-Key part #KKA1041S28-ND and I will report on it here, probably after the holidays. In case you don't know Eli, and I don't, just have read his posts for umpteen years, he only writes from experience and the info is always dead accurate.
