First off, many thanks to Paul and Doc for posting the information on the Climax design. One sentence in particular caught my eye in the document, in the description of the Passive Crossover: "The [crossover] box can be placed near the speakers, or if placed near the power amplifiers, it allows for a superior form of bi-wiring to be used"
Does this mean literally that "one short wire -> crossover -> two long wires -> drivers" is superior to "one long wire -> crossover -> two short wires -> drivers"? Is there an obvious reason why this should be the case? Is this approach common in high-end designs?
Just to clarify, I'm not asking the question "why does bi-wiring work?". I'm wondering why it makes a difference to bi-wire with the crossover near the amp vs near the speakers.
