There is a generalization that sources should have low impedances (50 or 600 ohms) and inputs should have high impedances (100k/1M ohm).
The only thing that looks odd is the frequency counter. The input is very low.
One of the worries is that if you have a low impedance input, the source will run out of current before reaching maximum. It "Current Clips."
Maybe you could put a 500k resistor in series with the signal lead going into the Frequency counter? But the signal level will drop drastically. It may still be enough to get a count.
