I don't know if I can give any useful advice, but I too remember those being tricky. I think if you put the nut into the bracket first, then put the bracket onto the chassis while turning the screw and holding the nut down with your finger it may be easier. Again, I can't recall how I did it but I know it took some patience. Of course the Extended upgrade replaces those nuts with standoffs. They're much easier too work with, and the upgrade sounds damn good too.
