Hi Joe,
Yeah I still have them in my Voigt Pipes. I did not get around to whistle them trough with a tonegenerator to check on base-response.
The other day I thought I miss some base so I tuned all kinds of FM stations in with their spectrum of music and I felt quite good again. Then I played classical CDs with full orchestras and I think there is definetly more low frequency response than I would have exspected from that little thing.
Thanks again to Valve mag and Hawai 5.0!Here is whats written on the rear, the 10 ounce magnet:
Radio Shack
Cat.No.40-1354A
20W NOM
40W Max
8 Ohms
TAIWAN
06 A 99My speakers also had a spec-sheet in the box with a graph that shows considerable roll off below 200 Hertz Like 7 dB down at 100 Hertz
and 13dB down at 50 Hertz
50 Hertz is the free air resonance. The Voigt Pipes go down to 40 Hertz.
It's worth to build! And you can always stick another driver in the Voigt pipe and review your experience.
I'm building the Hawaii 5.0 for my daughter now. Of course I'm very curious
how they compare.
I'm half finished with a parafeed 811-10 design. Have only 1 1/4 watt available without distortion so far. The 1 1/4 watt sounded big on my Voigt Pipes, so there is hope for low power amps on it.
Happy building!
