Re: Newbie question

Hi Ramiro,

Atlas and also Prometheus use new technical designs which often doesn`t follow the rules. There are many aspects in the design an engineer of common speakers would claim that they can`t work proper - but they do! The driver- anglinement of Atlas generates a special disperion, less reflections from floor and ceiling for a superiour imaging, also more dynamics and better control than Prometheus - which is also very good in this disciplines. There is no one single negative aspect when you switch from Prometheus to Atlas. The widebands doesn`t work as a stiff cone at high frequencies, they show flex cone- behaviour, so only very small parts of the cones move here. The distances inbetween the widebands and to tweeter on the Atlas- baffles have been measured and auditioned to be the optimum solution, this took lots of time during the construction- process. Atlas also uses a series- cabling of the widebands, this method produces non- linearities inbetween the widebands in common designs but there is a simple solution to avoid these which also can be used for other speakers with the same driver- anglinement: A parallel- resistor (which is needed to flatten the speaker impedance- curve for tubeamps)across each wideband helps to minimize non- linearities inbetween the wideband- drivers, very simple, very elegant and very effective! Atlas and Prometheus use many technical features with several functions at the same time to make the simple design possible. The speakers are reduced to the max. and there are many techniques which are new or a new mix of historical methods. To follow this path and making "impossible" things work was much more difficult than following the mainstream but when you hear the result and like the sound- aesthetics in general you won`t accept less (this means more complicated designs)anymore.
