Hello Robert,

Well, you have an excellent memory indeed, and in 30 years I will be 90--at which point it probably won't matter what they sound like (everything sounds bad through hearing aids).

From your response, you are clearly aware of the importance of dispersion uniformity at all frequencies to optimize sound reproduction. So many designs fall short in this all important parameter, and I can appreciate the difficulty in designing a speaker with consistent uniformity.

I assume from your comment that the wide-band driver rolls off by itself around 8Khz, so I further assume that the tweeter's high pass filter is tuned to approx. that same frequency. I was curious as to the actual manufacturer of the wide-band driver, provided that it is not a trade secret. I am also curious as to whether or not the wide-band driver that has been treated with oil and laquer might not dry out over time and require future oil and laquer treatments to maintain optimal operating parameters, or should that treatment last a lifetime (Since I live in the desert where most things dry out over time, I worry about such things.).

I will travel to New Mexico next week to Tony's for a real audition. Tony's room is considerably more generous than I have in my home or than existed at RMAF, so I'm sure it will sound much better there. My own room is only about 13' X 19', and I do have some concerns regarding my ability to place the speakers far enough from the listening position for all drivers to integrate properly and to achieve good centerfill. With the speakers placed on the short wall firing into the 19' length, approx. how far do the speakers need to be from the front wall? How about the distance from the side wallls as well? The listening position, with my current speakers, is about 4' out from the back wall due to frequency response aberrations and standing waves when seated against the back wall. Thus, I will only have about 15' of distance to work with.

Thanks for the heads up on the Prometheus article. I'll try to find it.

Regards,
Dean Love
