Interior of sub cabinets

I'm building the subwoofer cabinets out of 3/4" MDF and I had a couple of questions.
Other sealed sub kits I've built involved lining the walls or stuffing the box loosely with sound-absorbing materials. Do I need to do the same thing for these?
Since I'm using 3/4" MDF, I'm installing cross-braces. Is it okay for these to be within a few inches of the rear of the driver, or do they need to be placed further back?
