Forward rendition. Is this right?

Reading the recent post from Audio Pharaoh ref. Tweeks.
He said "From a somewhat forward and irritating presentation to a more silent background, laid back and better separated smoother presentation."

This has led me to question my own L3 Remote. The one area I miss is the laid back "depth" rendition of music.The L3 is so good I accepted this forward presentation must be right way, but is it?
I have sent for the fuse, but comments of guidence would be welcome.
