hi horny i just remembered having a similar problem to the one you describe in a different situation

it happened when i changed my tonearm. when i put the new tonearm on and turned the volume up to normal (loudish) levels my speakers started bleeping and the cones flapping. there seemed to be some kind of resonant interaction between the different components in the system.

at the time i was using L3 phono and pre with a kit one. but i had just built the monos and when i put them in the system instead of the kit one, the problem went away.

prehaps someone else can explain what exactly was going on ? it might help solve your problem
