Well it's not really surprising to me. Still some dealers already bought the speakers so they can offer better deals. Soundhounds in Victoria is selling the AN K/SPE for $1500 one pair left I believe but they bought a lot of speakers a long while back and have them at lower prices.
Plus to be frank the AN J/Spe is as good as any speaker I've heard for $10k $15k and $20k. After listening to the AN E/LX HE hemp versus, at the same dealer, Sonus Faber Cremona, Quad 2905, Magnepan 20.1, B&W Diamond 800 ($23k or so) it really wasn't even a horesrace.
Timbre tonality instrument pressure and just the gut "this instrument sounds like a real instrument in space" just really does it.
The AN K for example used to be $1975 while the N805 was $3k - no comparison the K stomps it. So now the AN K has crept up in price while B&W has stayed roughly the same. The K still stomps it but it's obviously not the steal it was.
The AN J at $5k well it beats the ever loving snot out of something like the Wilson Sophia at $16,000. Other than the AN E there isn;t really much that competes with the J/Spe that I have come across. I listened briefly to a pair of Harbeths but they're just completely outclassed.
Get em while you can because I suspect the price is only going to keep going up. They are in my opinion under priced. And yeah it's crazy to say that about a 2 way box with paper woofers - but that aside on just sound reproduction - they could be charging $10k for the AN J/Spe and looking around at other $10k speakers it would still be a good value in my book.
Granted I own them so I am crazy biased perhaps but the products made me biased - so I give them credit.
