Yes, very good point. If he pre-tests his tubes, I'll buy from him too.

I don't know how valid this is but I actually found the Lexus quite a bit warmer than the AN-La it replaced. I also thought that a longer cable would sound warmer because the capacitance, which increases with length, is higher, which rolls off the highs more.
Are you using Telefunkens for EL-84 and ECC83? I haven't used either but seem to remember hearing that some of the Telies are great tubes in detail and dynamics, but maybe not so much on the warm side. Do you find that to be the case? If so, perhaps if you tried a very warm but clear sounding ECC83 for the drivers, the combination might give you what you want.

Well, your system is certainly resolving enough that you'd hear the differences in capacitors. I've tried different caps in my amps, but only to a limited degree because of the supposed long breakin times, i.e. 800-1000 hrs for teflon, before which the component supposedly sounds like crap. There's not enough time left in my life to listen to bad sound for 800hrs for every cap change - if a cap doesn't sound good in 15-20 hours then out it goes. Same with a tube.
