I have some soldering tips on my website that might help a bit - see below.

The DAC 1.1 was my first kit from Audio Note - well worth the experience and yours should be a lot better than mine because of the analog filter removal and also because it will be in the bigger chassis (isolating it better from the power supply) - not to mention all those upgrade options that are going to be available.
