Is the DAC 1.1 Kit still worth getting?

I know the topic seems strange but I am currently mulling over the decision to upgrade my DAC but am unsure if the DAC 1.1 kit is the way to go since it has been around since the late 1990's!

I currently have a CD-Zero transport / DAC-Zero combo and would like to take playback to the next level. I don't have the $$$ for a production DAC 1.1x/II so I am contemplating the DAC 1.1 kit but I am worried that the kit may be too out-of-date since it looks like it has remained unchanged since the late 90's. Has the Kit received improvements over the years in the same vein as the production models?

My goal would be to start with the DAC 1.1 Kit and eventually upgrade it to the DAC 2 kit within a couple of years time.

Is the DAC 1.1 Kit still a terrific performer and will I notice significant improvement over my DAC-Zero?
