I believe the plywood cab is figuered into the whole design of the speaker. Changing would effect the sound. I dont know where you live but Home Depot has birch plywood cut in quarter sheets. That would be your best bet. When you have completed your kit let us know how it sounds. I have been interested in that kit also......DK
