Hi Windy,
I understand you bought a basic Kit1 that is ten yrs old with two different 300Bs. First of all you have to get a matched 300Bs to get similar output sound from both speakers. Maybe you have or looking for Sonus Faber Concerto Home that has 88dB. I built a Kit1, a year and half ago that had the same chassis as yours, and my speakers were(are) B&W 801s with 85dB. I listen mostly to classical music where I don't crank the volume to its max, but sometimes when I listen to jazz I turn up the volume. My room is 12.5x18x7-14', and 85dB is sufficient for this room, but if you have a much larger room, I'm afraid 88db might not be enough.
After 1.5 yrs my Kit1 has been upgraded to PQ signature plus, and it
has expanded the volume quite a bit, due to double C-core output
transformers. I wanted to find how my PQ would perform with a higher
efficient speakers, so I assembled an AN-E kit3. I have nearly 150 hrs
on them, and boy, they are great. It takes 1/6th less turn in volume
control compared to B&W. But both AN-E kit3 and B&W 801s are great
speakers.
