Hi Bill ,Relax ! I dont't pretend any "conventional wisdom". I just wanted as I said with my "modest experience" do some suggestions.
I had 3 300B Amps with so called "pre-amp" stage and each time use of a good active pre increased dynamic. Some agree with me , others not.
I just mean it would be a pity not to try it .About the TJ Mesh I just wanted to warn. It can be usefull after 1 year of intensive use to try another tube to check their health ...
About elimination of by-pass caps : of course I did not mean to eliminate them with standard electrolytics , only with BG WKZ.
The "recommendation attibuted to PQ" is no "urban legend".
It is just a mail exchange between Peter and me . I quote :
"I don't personally like to bypass any of the Black Gates , as I think it changes the overall voice of the amplifier , so I would leave them alone".For the last point , of course I have not 2 carbon pots
(Kit1's has been replaced by tantalum resistors)I wish you happy listenings , with or without pre,TJ,by-pass ......
