If I were you, I'd switch the cartridge first, as some said below. I used to have a Goldring 1022 and it was a VERY warm cart. A low output mc Denon, like the 103R, would be much more dynamic and refined, and if you needed more gain you could always add a step up, which would make it more dynamic still.
