The stands ship with upward pointed spikes for the top plate which are an option. The speakers are shipped with a pad of BluTak, however, and that is how they are always displayed at shows, and is mfgr's preferred method. Mass loading the speakers by filling the stands with lead shot and sand improves things quite distinctly and I suspect that might not be as effective on the spikes.However,since both are supplied, there's no reason not to try both.
"Different speakers though" pretty much renders the impression and conclusion moot, I'd have to say.
