Moving to a 1042 might do the trick - even if it doesn't I'll bet that you'll like the other things it does for the sound.I have mixed feelings over BGs. I've found that they initially sound great, then awful, then slowly move back to great. It's the break in period I dislike so much. I want it all, and I want it soon! Therefore I'm a big Cerafine proponent - they give BGs a real run for the money and cost a LOT less. Another alternative cap to try is the Nichikon KZ. Michael Percy Audio seems to be one of the very few outlets carrying them. I've seen these referred to as "good as or better than" BGs for a fraction of the cost.
I recently rebuilt my Kit 2's driver stage using Kiwame resistors (can't afford the Tants!) and Mundorf Supreme Silver/Oil caps in C7 to 10. I went with the Mundorfs after listening to a guy who builds low-run $$$ preamps. He said he's tried every cap on the market, including V-Caps, and the Mundorfs were the best after the AN Silver, which cost triple or more (probably more). The Mundorfs were a revelation (I had them on the pre-Kiwame board) - an increase in soundstage size and more detail coming through. I should point out that they replaced Jensen Au PIO. It was the proverbial "a veil was lifted" thing. Oh, removing the smaller foil caps is a bad idea. I can't remember why exactly, but Brian said they're necessary. Mine are still Jensen Au - Mundorf only makes the .022 is their Gold/Silver line, which are a little too expensive for now.
Going to the opposite end of the metal spectrum, I wonder if AN tin foil caps would increase attack. For some reason I have it in my head that they are good for this - tin in general, I mean.
Tube rolling could be another option. You've got great 300Bs, but what are you using in the driver stage? My fav. Kit 1/Kit 2 6SN7 is the Sylvania chrome top. These are readily available on Ebay and elsewhere and can be had for little money. They are, to my ears, markedly better than Ken Rad (black glass) and Sylvania JAN VT-231s in that they're more detailed and they present a more lively sound. I use Mullard 12AX7s in my Kit 2 - I'm not sure which 5751s would be right for your Kit, but I do recommend the chrome top as the least intrusive tweak.
What about cables? Can you specify your power cable and ICs? I've been assembling some Furutech cable based power cords and they are phenomenal. A little pricy, but awesome sound and a big step up from the DH Labs I was using before.
