Well that's a little hard to say as I've been doing running upgrades for about a year! With the BGs you should probably see it settle in after another 100 or 200 hours. Other upgrades I've done have taken far less time to shine (Jensen aluminum to Mundorf silver/oil on the driver board; Kiwame resistors in place of Beyschlags on the driver; AN-V replacing the AN-A; DACT pot and, of course, numerous tubes).I was using JJ KT88s, which sound wonderful - very detailed and controlled, lots of tight bass - but one started popping on me so they're out. I'd like to order a replacement, but now I'm a little nervous about their quality / longetivity. I can buy a pair of Shuguangs for a little more than the cost of 1 of the JJs, so I thought I'd try them out. I've heard nice things about the EH's - they're not satisfying?
My current power tubes are NOS (well they were!) GE 6550As. They're very nice, and have loads of bass, but on my setup they don't sparkle like the JJs did, and I miss that. I had a very nice synergy going with the JJs, a NOS Tung Sol 5U4G, 2 Mullard 12AX7s and a Sylvania Chrome Top 6SN7 (medium bottle).
