O.k. after lots of messing around I eventually removed the High Voltage centre-tap (black wire) from the PSU pcb so it is floating. Now if I measure from one end of the red wire on the rectifier base (one end of the HT secondary) to the ground of the chassis I get 5.5ohms !?

I think this is my problem... a shorted HT winding.

Could anyone concur?
