Re: how does Soro SE compare to Signature Kit 1 300B

“Pardon my ignorance but what does resolute mean in the following?
'The Soro SE had more powerful lows, however not as resolute as the Kit1/Preamp Kit lows.' Does this have to do with conviction of the presentation of the lows?”

Please excuse my butchered English.

What I should have said is "not as resolving", meaning more distintion between the bass notes and more presence of low level detail. I'm reluctant to say that the Kit1/Preamp Kit bass is tighter for fear of implying the Soro's bass is bloated, which I don't think is the case, it's rather that the Kit1/Preamp Kit has less power but more detail in the lows.

“I am surprised to hear the Soro SE was more laid back in your system, my set up can get edgy in the highs and I have always thought the Soro was very neutral and blamed the souces, but the other information is very hopeful for me.”

And your statement is just as surprising to me! The Soro SE was on loan for 5 days and I made a big effort to get to know it in that limited time. I used it with a variety of sources and cables (but always with the AN-J's) and never found the highs to be edgy in the least, and in fact just the opposite, if anything rolled off on the top end.

The Soro SE came from a dealer and had some old stock tubes installed, which were quite likely very expensive (knowing the dealer), and I didn't try rolling the tubes out of respect for his generosity.

Have you tried different tubes in your Soro and if so you find?
I've rolled tubes in various amps I've owned and find that different tubes can have a huge effect on the sound. Some 12AX7's can be particularly annoying. I did a quick search in the Tube Asylum for "Soro tubes" and came up with the post linked at the bottom. A search of all the asylums may turn up a lot.

I'm very interested in pursuing this subject.
