Thanks for your addition. It did answer my question completly.I also have the AER 834P with the volume pot, exept I took the pot on mine out, since I did not want two volume pots in the signal path. Having changed a volume pot to a stepped attenutor before in my amp. I know how much detail a pot takes away and how it does degrade the sound. I took the volume pot out on my EAR and put an on/off light into the hole. Reminds me to turn off the EAR 834.
Haven't done any tube rolling in the EAR yet, but listened only to the suggestions of different inmates and put some Raytheon 5751 in mine.
Sound is just wonderful sweet and lovely.
BTW. I replaced the caps with MusiCap, which increased the quality of the sound. Better bass, nicer mids and more natural sound.
