If, in general, I don't know the right screw type to use I normally take my set of various screw fixing drivers and try then (gently) until I find the right one. Why can you not do this? BTW I use sets of various heads with a common driver that that they fit into.

At least post a picture of the fixings and that will help the answer. I am concerned by your use of the terms of Allen key and, as an alternative, screw driver, which suggests to me that you don't know what type it is ( aside from the question of size). It may be neither of these and could be e.g Torx or Posidrive etc. The link may help you identify what it is.
