RR is the model designation that reflects remote control. I think it stands for "Reference Remote". In my case the tech wasn't able to repair the OEM volume control which is fairly complex. The factory sent replacement parts which didn't do the trick. So the Alps potentiometer was my best option to get it home and working again. However as I noted, it sounds better with the Alps pot and Western Electric hookup wire. Perhaps it is the simplicity of the Alps installation. I'm using the amp with Merlin VSM Mme's. The combination is wonderful and has me off of the upgrade MERRY-GO-ROUND.
