I suspect you (BCR) and some other posters have not lived with 100F plus degree temperatures?
I live in Los Angeles, CA, and have for 65 years. The only escape from summer heat lasting days is air condition, which is costly to run, central air is more costly, and non-central air is noisy. After a few days everything in the house from walls to the cat is also getting hot requiring the AC to be run 24-7 or you will get behind and never cool things off.
Summer heat was one of the reasons I retired a Golden Tube SE-40.
