Amp/Preamp Asylum Looking for a new Amp or Preamp? If you're after tubes, post over here. |
|
My friend is experiencing a problem with his SE Chinese amplifier. The amp is powered by two EL-34 tubes, has one 12AU7 tube, one 6SN7 driver tube and one 5Z4PJ rectifier.
I know it's hard to diagnose the problem from the distance, but I will try to describe the symptoms and, may be, to get some clues:
"The amp works at 95% of its power (my note: what was the need to do this? I suspect clipping) for approx. 15 minutes, then all tubes fade and it looks like the power is disconnected altogether."
Yesterday he suspected the rectifier, for which there is no replacement. Now he wants to know whether these symptoms can tell a story...
Any ideas?
Thanks.
