You still haven't mentioned what cartridge you're using. Without specific cartridge information it's difficult to provide a meaningful answer to your question.

What cartridge do you have connected to your P5 phono input and in what position is the toggle switch on the back panel right underneath the phono ground connector?



If you have a moving magnet (MM) cartridge connected with the toggle switch in its upper MC/100-ohm position, that would cause the problem you are experiencing. You should move the toggle to the lower MM/47k-ohm switch position.

Additionally, if you have a low-output moving coil (MC) cartridge connected with the toggle switch in the lower MM/47k-ohms position, that would also cause the problem you are experiencing. You should move the toggle to the middle or upper switch position -- whichever sounds better.
